Aerial Base Station Placement: A Tutorial Introduction

The deployment of aerial base stations (ABSs) mounted onboard unmanned vehicles is emerging as a promising technology to provide connectivity in areas where terrestrial infrastructure insufficient or absent. This may occur, for example, remote areas, large events, emergency situations, affected by natural disasters such wildfires tsunamis. To successfully materialize this goal, it required that ABSs are placed at locations 3D space ensure high quality service the ground terminals. article provides tutorial introduction ABS placement problem fundamental challenges and trade-offs first investigated means toy application example. Next, different approaches literature address aforementioned both 2D introduced, discussion on adaptive provided. concluded discussing future research directions.
